Service Learning Project

     

      We have done a good job until now. Each of groups has worked very hard to reach the goals of this project.  The crowdfunding group has reached both of goals that were collecting money to buy 50 soccer balls and to buy some educational materials, and the amount of money that they collected until now is $1,023. The media group has prepared some videos and posters, and they will publish it on social media soon. The social media group has tried to share every step of this project on social media websites to inform people what we have done until now. The community outreach group has tried to find the best quality of the materials that we will buy for them. The event group is planning for the big event which is a Soccer Game between APP and UG students, and this will happen in May 4th, 2016. The money that they will collect from selling tickets for this game will be spent for refugees' children.

We have reached the first goal for this project which was collecting money to buy 50 soccer balls for refugees children; people donated $375 for this goal. We thank all those people who helped us until now, but we still need to reach another goal which is collecting money to buy educational materials, and we have approximately $225, but we still need more, so if you want to help them, you can contribute more money to our project.

We have a meeting with UNHCR and we discussed about some issues that the refugees have and also some activities that the refugees may have in the camps.
We met Rehab Khalifa, who is associate community service officer. She was talking about some activities like computer club, learning projects, short courses, and some activities for adults.

Collaboration between AUIS and Salam Soccer

Everyone in this world needs something to make them happy, it might be reading, playing, etc. We are trying to make a possible collaboration with Soccer Salam , which is a group to help refugees children by buying footballs, and prepare matches, to help refugees children who don’t have something to make them happy during the summer break that will start in the next few months. Our goal is to raise $2,000 to make some activities for children. For example, we are trying to collect money to buy footballs and create some matches for them. This is one of those things that make a large number of children be happy, for one ball gives enjoyment for nearly twenty children.

We are a group of students from American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. We are Level 2 students of Academic Preparatory Program(APP). We are the media group of the Server Learning Project. Our task is to make posters and videos about refugees, and our main goal is to bring their voices to the world.

A Story about Fatima in Arbat Camps, Sulaimani.

 

Fatima is a refugee girl in Arbat Camps, Sulaimani.

( I want to be an actress like Angelina Jolie . How could I  possibly be her that even I cannot move from one budge ?. I have not  seen the sunshine, sunset, rain, sky, moon, and even outside for approximately four  years). Fatima said. These speeches have impacted on me . For example,  we can walk,  move,  jump,  and run,  but we have not thought about what she wishes to. When we got home, we thought, how can we help her? Why we are helping her? Is there anyone who deserve more?  Fatima is one of the patient in Arbat Camp near by Sulaimani for almost  15 kilometers  and is 15 years old. She injured by a bomb that exploded in front of her house that caused her to lay down in bed almost 4 years. The entire her bodies cannot move either she is straight  horizontally or vertically. Several doctors have signed for her that she can return to the world as a normal person as everyone ,and she needs  the surgery that cost $20000. Unfortunately, nobody cares! YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO  CAN HELP ME OUT IN THIS DIRE CIRCUMSTANCE.
